Controller Of Budget ( Margaret Nyakang'o ) Reveals WhatsApp Messages Being Forced To Transfer Ksh.15B Before Elections

Nyakang'o said she was pressured into approving Ksh. 9.5 billion from the annuity fund and Ksh. 6 billion for the purchase of telecoms just days before the elections on August 9 when she spoke before the Parliamentary Public Petitions Committee on Tuesday.

Margaret Nyakang'o, the budget controller, claims she was forced to sign a Ksh. 15 billion contracts for the 2022 General Election. Nyakang'o said she was pressured into approving Ksh. 6 billion for the purchase of Telcos and Ksh. 9.5 billion from the annuity fund in just days.

Before the elections on August 9 when she spoke before the Parliamentary Public Petitions Committee on Tuesday. The previous Treasury CS Ukur Yatani and the budget controller, according to the budget controller, had a conversation according to the information provided to the committee.

CS Yatani wrote to Nyakang'o on August 4, 2022, at 2:13 p.m., requesting assistance in facilitating comparable clearances for the infrastructure ministry for amounts totaling Ksgs8 billion (sic) and Ksh.2 billion.

A photo with the message "Please help us expedite this" was allegedly emailed to her an hour and 20 minutes later, at 3:33 pm. A minute later, she received another email with the following message: "H.E. might even call you if we don't deal with this by 4 pm.

"Are you suggesting we have 26 minutes to complete the process?" Margaret reportedly retorted. The individual writing: "He's just called and I assured you that I have spoken to you and that you promised by the end of the day" may be seen on the claimed discussion document.

At 3:37 PM, he allegedly followed up by adding, "I know he will call you again. He encouraged some guys to come back to work by promising that their bills would be paid today. Margaret allegedly responded.

"The timing requires up to tomorrow as I am still out of office," and Yatani allegedly instructed the budget controller, "You need to create how to deal with it," in a message purportedly sent at 3:39 pm. Trying, I'm sorry.

When asked why she was unable to reject the alleged coercion, Nyakang'o explained "Before you make that choice, there are a lot of factors we need to consider. But what I'm saying is that my office has to be safeguarded, and there are gaps that need to be examined.
