PRESIDENT RUTO SCALES DOWN UHURU KENYATTA, MATIANG'I'S SECURITY

According to government officials, there has been a dramatic reduction in the security provided for retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Daily Nation further said that a senior police officer in charge of the security squad had been brought in and replaced with a subordinate.

According to a source who spoke to the Nation yesterday, Mr. Kenyatta is now down to 25 of the 96 elite officers who were assigned to him, while the former First Lady is down to five. The source also said security personnel assigned to Mr. Kenyatta's other family members were all withdrawn.

Since a chief inspector is supposed to be in charge of the former president's security detail, an officer with the rank of assistant inspector general was called back. However, a superintendent of police is currently in charge of the lean team.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke after condoling with Dr. Barbara Odudu Magoha, widow of former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on January 31, 2023, at Lavington, Nairobi County.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the rationalization had impacted both previous interior secretaries Karanja Kibicho and former interior minister Fred Matiang'i. The extent of their security detail's withdrawal, meanwhile.

Was unclear because some sources claimed there were now only two of each of their 18 security members. Numerous people who had received the perk because of their connections to prior Cabinet Secretaries had their security detail revoked. An official from the government claimed that "the drill was not targeting solely the three."
